The Africa Project Against Suicide (APAS) is an international suicide prevention initiative, officially unveiled in the city of Polokwane, South Africa in 2018 with functional national and regional branches spread across Nations of the World(currently in 32 countries), established to alert citizens and governments about the looming epidemic of suicide and also generate systematic interventions. As we speak, suicide continues to be a public health burden to our society.
We have a vision to create a safer World free of suicide.
We have a mission to mobilize human and capital resources, to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, manage partnerships to reduce cases of suicide and provide support to those affected by it, through public campaigns, training, mentoring, economic empowerment and research.
The 2nd APAS International Leadership Congress, themed “YOU CAN WIN”, is decentralized for this year, 2023, in order to encourage local participation and expand our reach. Consequently, the congress will be held in three regions of Africa, namely
· Eastern Africa region, to be hosted by Tanzania on 13th-15th July, 2023.
· Southern Africa region, to be hosted by Botswana, 17th-19th July, 2023 and
· West Africa region, to be hosted by Ghana, 20th-22nd July, 2023.
The APAS Regional Coordinators, International Ambassadors, Country Coordinators, Country Executive Members, International Committee Leaders and volunteers across the world would be gathering in these regions to shed a new light on the importance of mental health and innovative ways to empower people to overcome suicide. The congress, which will feature leadership certificate training sessions, music, dinner, sightseeing, among many other things, will also open up networking and professional development opportunities to participants. It would give room for cross breeding of ideas, close up interactions on issues unique to countries in each of the regions and opportunity to review our various initiatives in different communities of Africa.
The registration fee is $90, which covers for 4 days feeding, training materials, conference shirt, transportation within the City and sight seeing.
